After months of cold weather, May rolls in with my insatiable hunger for Mexican food and margaritas. Nothing quite satisfies like spicy food, chased by a refreshing, citrusy, boozy drink.

Below, we have included a recipe for a classic margarita with options to spice it up. Enjoy!

The Ingredients

  1. Lime wedge
  2. Salt (and/or Tajin – for salting/flavoring the rim)
  3. Ice
  4. 2 oz. Tequila (Or Mezcal for a smokier flavor)
  5. A dash of bitters (optional)
  6. 1/2 oz. Lime juice
  7. 1/2 oz. Agave

The Process

  1. Cut a slit in the lime wedge and carefully place it on the rim of your glass. Move the lime around the rim of the glass.
  2. Dip the damp rim into a bowl of salt (and/or tajin spice).
  3. Add ice to the glass for an extra icy margarita, (Crushed ice for a slushier feel) and set the glass aside.
  4. In a cocktail shaker add ice, tequila, bitters (if using), lime, and agave.
  5. Shake vigorously until fog appears on the outside of the mixer.
  6. Strain the mixture into the glasses, and enjoy!
